The obstacles in the way of the Padma bridge

Padma bridge is the highest priority project of current ruling government. Prior to winning the December 29, 2008 election, the election manifesto on behalf of the Awami League, named 'Day of the Birth Certificate', was promised to build Padma Bridge. Awami League government started functioning according to the power and accordingly. But in the meantime, various international hurdles, including alleged allegations of corruption, are different. There are many complications in foreign funding to build longest bridge in Bangladesh. The government created all these obstacles and started constructing this bridge with its own funding. The Padma bridge has started to become visible in the Jajira section of the Padma bridge after establishing a span after the pillar. The government is hoping that this bridge will be open for traffic movement by December 2016.



Local and international conspirators were blamed by the government as the reason behind the construction of Padma Bridge. In this case, most of the blame has been given to the donor organization World Bank. There was a complaint from the government team at different times as many local and private organizations were also involved in this conspiracy. Especially in the peace Nobel win. Muhammad Yunus was held responsible for this. Awami League had alleged that he could stop the World Bank's financing from Padma bridge through the United States without being able to hold the office of Grameen Bank illegally.
It is known that the present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the initiative to construct the 1998 Padma Bridge. Accordingly, the probability of verification was started from 1998 to 2000. Then, in 2001, the probation of the feasibility of Japanese support was done. On July 4, 2001, Sheikh Hasina also laid the foundation stone of Padma Bridge at Mawa Point for the dream. In July 2004, the government decided to construct the Padma bridge between Mawa-Jazirah, according to Japanese International Assistance Agency JICA's recommendation. In 2008, the caretaker government finalized the consultation firm for the design of Padma bridge. After the absolute majority in the December 29, 2008 election, the grand alliance government led by Sheikh Hasina took the task of constructing the Padma Bridge again with the oath. The World Bank has shown interest in financing Padma bridge. Asian Development Bank (ADP), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and JICA The government signed a $ 1.2 billion loan agreement with the World Bank on April 28, 2011 for the largest Padma bridge project of Bangladesh at a cost of $ 29 billion. Then JICA ($ 40 million) on May 18, IDB ($ 14 million) on May 24 and ADB's ($ 620 million) sign agreement was signed on June 6.
Initially, the hazard started. The allegations of corruption come from the World Bank. The World Bank suspended postponement in September 2011 (2011) after allegations of corruption in five months after the loan settlement. The names of senior officials, including the communications minister, come when corruption is involved. The allegation of corruption was raised on the family members of the Prime Minister. Other donor companies followed the path of the World Bank. The World Bank added four conditions, including taking action against corruption conspiracy for reviewing the loan during the suspension of the loan agreement. During this time, the World Bank gave some information-proof of corruption to Bangladesh. The government has withdrawn the suspension from the government and the court continued. The government took some visible steps, including the removal of the communications secretary, to avoid the contract. But the World Bank did not have satisfactory arrangements against corruption. As a result, on July 29, 2012, the official officially canceled the loan agreement.
During this time, the Prime Minister urged Bangladeshi and expatriates to come forward with the help of Padma bridge construction. Many people came forward to respond to the Prime Minister's call. Start collecting money. Later, in the cabinet meeting, a decision was taken to open two bank accounts in each scheduled bank for the fund collection of Padma bridge.
According to the conditions provided by the World Bank, the ACC started searching for the allegations of corruption in the appointment of consultant in Padma bridge. During that time the delegation of the World Bank came to Dhaka several times and met with the ACC. These new conditions came in new meetings. Along with the World Bank, along with the court, the government started making alternative funding efforts. The initiative to build a bridge with its own funding was also discussed in this regard. On June 4, 2013, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave an ultimatum to the company on January 4, 2013, annoyed by the World Bank. He said the government would not take any loan from them if the World Bank did not clear their position within the month. They will build Padma bridge with their own funding. After January 31, the government withdrew the request for funding for Padma Bridge and sent it to the World Bank. Before withdrawing the request for funding to the World Bank-Malaysia, China, and some countries, including interest, are interested in financing. But due to not being affordable for the country, the government has taken the task of constructing the bridge with its own financing without going to it. For the next fiscal year (2013-14), the government has started formalizing the construction of the bridge through the allocation of Tk 6,852 crore for the Padma bridge project. The World Bank did not give any evidence to the Canadian court even after allegations of corruption against Padma bridge were found. At the end of the long court proceedings on February 10, the Canadian Court said there was no evidence that the World Bank canceled the allegation of corruption conspiracy in the Padma bridge project.
